Simplified Migration from VMware: PCD is recognized for facilitating the migration from VMware environments to OpenStack-based private clouds. This capability is particularly valuable for organizations seeking alternatives due to changes in VMware's ownership and pricing structures.
Comprehensive Cloud Management: Users appreciate PCD's ability to manage virtualization clusters, Kubernetes, and networking components, providing a unified platform for cloud operations. This integration simplifies infrastructure management and enhances operational efficiency.
Open-Source Integration: The platform's reliance on open-source technologies, such as OpenStack and Kubernetes, is seen as a significant advantage. This approach offers flexibility and reduces dependency on proprietary solutions, aligning with the preferences of many modern enterprises.
Day 2 Operations Support: PCD's features for ongoing operations, including high availability, dynamic resource rebalancing, and sophisticated scheduling, are highlighted as beneficial for maintaining stable and efficient cloud environments
Complexity of Migration Process: Some users have noted that the migration process can encounter challenges, particularly when dealing with complex applications and data dependencies. For instance, during a live demonstration, a data copy failure was observed, indicating potential hurdles in seamless migrations.
Dependence on SaaS Management Plane: PCD's architecture involves a SaaS-based management plane with agents deployed on-premises. While this design offers benefits, it also introduces concerns about reliance on external services for critical management functions.
